I spent a bit of time birding Sunday the 23rd in Seattle area.

Was in Discovery Park - Ft. Lawton area at daybreak for a couple hours,
and saw three Townsend's Solitaires near the post church area northwest
of the South Entrance parking lot. These birds were feeding through
planted red oaks and pines, as well as on the ground, in the 'memorial
grove'. Other than that, saw lots of the usual winter residents, maybe a
dozen Orange-crowned Warbs, and just a few yellow-rumps (6 Audubon, 4-5
Myrtles).

On the water in the afternoon, from Des Moines to Alki and back. Saw 2
Black Scoters just north of Des Moines. Scattered Black Brant were seen
all the way there and back - maybe 500 all told? Sorry, I couldn't turn
any of the Bonaparte's gulls into Little Gulls. The Red-necked and
Horned grebes are mostly in their spring plumage, and impressed even my
non-birding wife and in-laws.
