Wednesday, 26 April:
In my optical and spectacle field of view today just west (1.5 mi.)
of Arlington, Snohomish County in a recently cut field on the south
side of Highway 530 were 131 Whimbrel (or is it Whimbrels?) which I
would capitalize in an ornithological publication (following the
Paulson precept) but lower the case, as the case would be, in a
journalistic tract. Also present were nine raven, one red-tail (it
was a young bird and therefore undeserving of capitalization) and
several hundred Savannah Sparrows, some with incredibly bright
yellow lores. Stay out of the field. The local militia uses it for
tank exercises a la John Deere and they are possessive.
Also, on the Everett waterfront today, in the log yard just north of
the boat launch were about a 1000 Dunlin (20%) and Western
Sandpipers (80%) and one Cinnamon Teal. It's nice to get out.
