Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording was
made Thursday, April 13th. If you have anything to add, call Harry
Nehls at 233-3976.

A male and 2 female PINE GROSBEAKS were at the 6500' level on
the east side of Mt. Hood, above Cloud Cap, on APR 2.

A CATTLE EGRET has been on Sauvie Island, near the pumpkin patch
farm, since APR 9.

An offshore boat trip out of Newport APR 8 [9] found a FLESH-FOOTED
SHEARWATER among 80 SOOTY and 8 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS. Four
[NORTHERN] FULMARS, 3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and over 100 BLACK-
FOOTED ALBATROSSES were found. A few FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS, a
couple of SABINE'S GULLS, some [BLACK-LEGGED] KITTIWAKES, and
BONAPARTE'S GULLS were also seen.

Three FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS and over 100 HORNED GREBES were
off Boiler Bay APR 9. That day 23 WHIMBREL, 4 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, and some BONAPARTE'S GULLS were at Yaquina Bay.

All the swallows, including PURPLE MARTIN, returned during the
week. They are in large numbers.

Six COMMON LOONS, 3 EARED GREBES, and both CINNAMON and BLUE-
WINGED TEALS were in the Forest Grove area APR 9.

Santiam Flats, at Detroit, Oregon, is attracting unusual
migrants again this spring. Several LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES have
been seen there in the past couple of weeks. And on APR 12 a
COMMON LOON, 2 TRUMPETER SWANS, and a flock of gray-type FOX
SPARROWS were in the area.

That's it for this week.
