Okay, I'll confess utter ignorance.

How does one determine that a bird is "sick"? I've always figured they (at
least the smaller birds) are healthy or they're somebody's lunch.

What are the diagnostic behaviors/appearances? Do they have runny noses and
carry hankies (then surely I've never seen a sick bird)? More seriously, if
feather loss is a clue, how does this differ in appearance than "normal"
molting or wear?
