Serge,

Fort Lewis is a large US Army base in Pierce County, Wash, just south of
the Tacoma area. There are a lot of habitats on it, including open
prairies (some including a lot of the native grasses and forbs), Oregon
white oak savannah, often with a lot of Scots' Broom in the understory,
and a lot of Douglas Fir timber in various stages of second-growth. The
Nisqually River and a number of streams run through, with their
associated riparian zones. There are several fairly large swamps and
lakes to be had. And, to be sure, there is considerable strip-mall (is the
new PX open, yet?) and residential (base housing, etc) 'habitats'.

Tom, just *where* were these birds heard?

(I have to confess, I heard the answer on Bird Talk, and don't feel free
to divulge the answer. It sure surprised me!)
