Karen,

Scientific method - what's that. I make no claim for the authenticity of the
data as it is likely to be full of errors. The aim was to get a flavour of the
types of people on tweeters and how they obtain access.

To get all this information, send the request "rec tweeters" to the list
server - it's in the FAQ.

> How on earth can you presume one's payment method based on one's email address?

There are several national and lots of local internet service providers. The
names are pretty well known, for example America Online, Prodigy, Seanet,
Eskimo, etc. So anybody with an email address originating form such a source
was "assumed" to be paying for a personal account.

> How do you know who is _working_ at home vs simply posting from home?

I should have been more clear on this point. The figures show where people
post from - since I was at work at the time I made up the list is erroneously
labelled the category.

> karensw at halcyon.com <---Where am I posting from and how much am I paying

You are probably posting from home - though your company may have an account
with this local internet provider. If you are using a shell you are paying
$20/month (or $200 per year) for a serial link using SLIP/PPP you are paying
$30/month ($300 per year). Educational discounts are available.. The services
provided are email, news, file transfer and world-wide web access. Need I go
on .... :-)

It's amazing what information is out there - scary isn't it.

Stuart
