A few days ago, I posted an inquiry about the birding workshops given
through the U of Maine. Dr. Duncan sent information about the January,
96 trip to SE Arizona. Already full, folks!!! I am on the waiting list.
There are other trips coming up and later in 1996. Those interested may
want to contact the Institute for Field Ornithology about these.

Dear Maureen Ellis--

Janice Buckingham passed your e-mail of Monday, 7 Aug. on to me. I'll try
to answer your questions but must tell you at the outset that the response
to the "Sparrows '96" workshop Jon Dunn and I are teaching in southeast
Arizona has been impressive. The event is already fully enrolled (at 16
participants). We do routinely have withdrawals from events and can place
you on a waiting list if you choose (there is currently one person on
that list).

The way the waiting list works is: a deposit of $50 is required to be
placed on the list. This is refunded if no place in the event opens up
for you, or if you at any stage wish to be removed from the list. If a
place opens up and you accept, the deposit is applied to your course
fees. If you decline to accept the place, however, the deposit is
forfeited.

In answer to your questions:

There is a good restaurant right at out lodging in Sierra Vista. We'll
probably go out for some meals as well for a change of scene, and any
participant who wanted to would be welcome (but obviously not required
to go). These could range from fast-food to Mexican to whatever the mood
of the day might be. You are right that the cost of these non-breakfast
meals is NOT included.

We would try to match you with a suitable roommate if you
wished. If we are unable to do so and you get a single room "by default"
we would NOT charge the surcharge.

The only expenses beside airfare, course fee, and meals other than
breakfasts would be laundry (if any), items of a personal nature,
beverages, and so on. Binoculars and a field guide are necessities, of
course. Transport to/from Tucson IS included.
