That's a good time for pelagics -- see if you can get to NS via the
bluenose ferry from Bar Harbor. I saw hundreds of shearwaters of three
species, several jaegers (prob. parasitic, but I wasn't positive),
hundreds of phalaropes (red + red-necked), and scores of storm
petrels (I couldn't confidently pick out the Leach's, but there were
probably both species present), arctic terns, and a raft of about 8,000
common eiders as we left Frenchman's Bay when I took that trip ten years
ago August.
