Questions particularly for Don Baccus, but welcoming responses from all....
It looks like I will spend a few days in the Malheur area circa Sept 10.
Without speaking for others in my party, my plan is to sit on top of Steens
and look down on raptors as they fly by. 1) Will I be too early? 2) Is
there a bigger thrill on some other hill, or in the flat? 3) I live in the
Olympia area, and plan to take a day and a half to get there. A quick glance
at the map told me we have about three major routes to choose among. Any
favorites? That is, are there other great places to stop for birding on the
way down or back at this time of year?
