Subject: Jaw dropping numbers of shorebirds at Ocean Shores

Loads of fun was had at Ocean Shores on Saturday (12th Aug):

5 black turnstone
3 whimbrel
400 dowitcher (mostly short-billed based on call)
100+ western sandpipers
2 dunlin
1 bar-tailed godwit (breeding plumage)
2700+ sanderling
60-70 semi-palmated sandpipers

and wait for it....

1400+ black-bellied plover - took a long time to believe I was seeing
correctly as wave after wave of birds gathered on the beach, impressive to say
the least. No color-banded birds from Alaska though, SIGH.


Sad to be back at work.
