Subject: A Rake's Progress - Loosetrife Status Report

Sunday August 13th 1995, Montlake Fill, Seattle.

Work is well underway clearing the NE corner of the pond, where the
loosetrife is thickest, sigh. However the prospects looks excellent once this
area is clear. This area offers the most extensive feeding habitat as the
ground slopes very gently so the exposed shoreline and shallow water should
provide plenty of feeding habitat for dowitchers and avocets :-).

Birds seen:

1 willow flycatcher (heard)
2 belted kingfishers
2 green herons
1 greater yellowlegs
2 least sandpipers

loads of warblers and a couple of vireos seen flying about. Plenty of barn
swallows moving through for the last week of so.

Reports from other birders: a black-throated blue warbler or was it a
black-throated gray (check the hot line) and a yellow warbler were seen.

There will be another workparty, working wonders as usual (thanks, you guys
make the impossible seem trivial) on Thursday, starting at 6pm. Bring gloves,
and a fork (if you can, no matter if you can't).

See you there,

Stuart
