My gut reaction is along the line of off-topic posts. A little is fine,
and if I don't care about it, my Delete key works fine.

When it gets excessive, it becomes a hassle and folks will flame it away.

Even for-profit types of ads are acceptable to me for most
birding-related topics. I sure appreciate knowing about Terry Wahl's
pelagic trips out of Westport, and if some travel company announces a
birding/natural history trip, there's a body of Tweeters and others who
can use that information. Perhaps I'm just too lazy to surf the net for
Ads about those Pribilof trips...

Maybe it's because I was raised from age 5 with a TV in the house, but a
for-profit ad on tweeters every once in a while doesn't seem
excessive... (as long as it's in good taste :-))
