Subject: Advertisements - A Solution ??

Tweeters can get the log files of previous months conversations by sending
the command "get tweeters xxxxx" to the list server. Why not do the same thing
for trip schedules and details with Dan Victor's and UW's blessing of course
?

Advantages:

1. Only tweeters who are interested get "bothered" by the traffic.

2. Allows non as well as for-profit postings from organisations, Audubon,
Pelagic Trips etc. That would even allow deserving charitable organisations to
post price lists for goods and services.

3. The files/calendars can be regularly updated - the file name stays the
same so everybody knows where and how to get it .

4. Eliminates one-off commercial postings and other such spam, to get a file
listed requires the intervention of a moderator, ie Dan.

5. Allows far more details to be listed than might be appropriate through an
email posting.

Disadvantages

1. Requires tweeters to actively find out if there is something new. This can
be counteracted by a small Announcement on the list saying that the latest
schedule is available.

Anything else ??

TV already sucks (apart from Star Trek) I'd hate for my email to go the same way.

BTW: The amount of advertising in the UK is much, much less than over here
and since there is no UK film industry the adverts have been raised to almost
the level of an art form. People watch TV for the adverts (I'm not kidding)
and a good advert certainly commands a place as a topic for conversation.
