Tweets and OBOLers,

If this has been posted previously, forgive me. In the August 1995
Ornithological Newsletter, a request for assistance was published:

"WESTERN AND SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS have been color-banded near Nome in
western Alaska. The researcher, BRETT K. SANDERCOCK, Dept Biol Sci,
Simon Fraser Univ, Burnaby, BC Canada V5A 1S6, (Bsanderc at fraser.sfu.ca),
would be grateful to learn of any sighting of these marked birds. The
majority of birds have been marked with a dark green flag on the upper
leg, and a metal band above a white band on the upper part of the
opposite leg. It would be useful to record the following information if
a marked sandpiper is sighted: the location and date of the sighting,
the sandpiper species and age class, the position of the bands on the
legs (e.g. left tibia, right tarsus, etc), and the number and species of
accompanying sandpipers. At least ten Western Sandpipers that were
banded at Nome have been resighted in the Pacific Northwest. Any
additional sightings will be gratefully acknowledged."

If seen, marked birds should also be reported to the CWS or Bird Banding
Laboratory. An additional aspect of birding for us 'Experts' ;-)
