This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Mike Denny reports from the Walla Walla River Delta on August 13
that there were 2 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 3
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, 3 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, 1 MARBLED GODWIT, a single SOLITARY SANDPIPER and 1
GREATER YELLOWLEGS. The Walla Walla River Delta is about 30 miles
west of Walla Walla at the Columbia River, just north of the
junction of US 12 and US 730. See Washington DeLorme p. 40, d-1.

Dan Svingen observed a PEREGRINE FALCON at Mann Lake east of
Lewiston, Idaho, on August 13. Dan got several good looks at the
bird and it didn't appear to have any leg bands. There was also a
smattering of shorebirds -- WESTERN, SEMIPALMATED and BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS. To get to Mann Lake, take US 12 west into Lewiston,
cross the Clearwater River via the Memorial Bridge and stay in the
left lane. Take the first left after crossing the bridge onto
Main Street toward East Lewiston. At the blinking light, turn
right onto Lindsay Creek Road. Follow it until it terminates at
Grelle Avenue. Turn left onto Grelle and after Grelle makes a 20
m.p.h. right turn, turn left. Immediately you'll see a sign for
Mann Lake. Continue straight, through the dead end, to the lake.
See Idaho DeLorme p. 54, a-1.

On August 13 Mike Denny observed 109 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, an
eclipse-plumaged HORNED GREBE, 15 CINNAMON TEAL and 24 BLUE-WINGED
TEAL at the Othello, Washington, sewage ponds. The ponds are at
the west end of Main Street in Othello. At the county line pond,
about 8 miles west of Othello and about 0.5 miles inside the Adams
County line, along Washington 26, Mike saw 6 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, 6 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 6 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, 9
AMERICAN AVOCETS and 2 CASPIAN TERNS. Othello is on Washington
DeLorme p. 53, b-7.

On August 13 Mike Denny observed a GREAT EGRET, lots of
phalaropes, good numbers of LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 4 LARK SPARROWS
at the Royal Slough in the Columbia NWR west of Othello. If you'd
like more information on the slough, call Mike at 509-529-0080.

Dan Svingen reports a BLUE GROUSE on Blacktail Butte southeast of
Grangeville, Idaho on August 14. Dan was up Meadow Creek Road,
which is Forest Service Road 451, at milepost 7. Also up there,
at the intersection of FR 648 and FR 451, which is locally known
as McCalmus (sp?) Meadows, Dan saw 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS. See
Idaho DeLorme p. 55, c-4.5.

If you haven't yet heard, Dan Svingen and I are coordinating an
effort to produce an Idaho birdfinding guide. So far, about 40
people have volunteered their expertise and favorite birding sites
for the project. If you would like to participate, please let me
know immediately. We will be sending out author instructions this
coming week. Authors will receive a complimentary copy of the
final product and proceeds from sales will go to an Idaho
birding-related organization. Give me a call at 208-883-0943 or
e-mail me at dumroese at uidaho.edu.

Finally, Mike Denny asked me to ask you for any information on
Long-tailed and/or Parasitic Jaegers in south-central Washington
for a little diddy he is working on. If you have had any
sightings, or know of anyone who has some, please let Mike know.
His home telephone number is 509-529-0080 or drop him a note at
323 Scenic View Drive, College Place, WA 99324.

Good birding!
