Lots of cool stuff was at Montlake Fill over the weekend:

Saturday, 08.00 - 10.30:

minimum of 33 black swifts, possibly as many as 60. Two parties of 18 and 15
were seen over the Fill and Lake Washington. A group of approx 50 birds were
seen thermalling at the same time the first group of 15 were seen. Going by
flight they were almost certainly black swifts however it was hard to judge
distance so an irrefutable ID was not possible.

25 vaux's swifts,
6 orange-crowned warblers
5 yellow warblers
2 Wilson's warblers
6 common yellowthroats
4 red-eyed vireos
4 western wood peewee's
4 willow flycatcher
1 spp. flycatcher
1 western sandpiper
1 green heron
2 green-winged teal


Sunday:

We got treated to a nice display of raptors flying south while pulling loosetrife:

3-4 Cooper's hawks
2-3 northern harriers

Also

3 lesser yellowlegs
8+ vaux's swifts


Loosetrife update

Work is continuing clearing the NE corner. Work passed the halfway stage on
Thursday and now three quarters of the area has been cleared. The area now
cleared is HUGE. Three-four more visits should seen the entire northen side
free of loosetrife. I you had seen this before, the place was just a sea of
purple. Thanks to everybody whose effort is greatly appreciated.
