I don't recall as a beginning/intermediate birder being very
impressed only with big birds. My lifer Rufous-sided Towhee
was quite an event - a bird I found and identified all on my own
on a family vacation 1100 miles from home. Of course, I was only
about 10 or 11 years old at the time... People who are not very
interested in birds might be more interested in seeing large,
flashy birds, but anyone into nature activities in general, and
birds in particular, might appreciate the small things, as well.
