According to my son Alex, it is all in the tone of voice.
The birder must say ....
"Those *are* Northwestern crows."
Any hesitation or lack of confidence indicates that the
birds in question are *not* Northwestern Crows.
Fortunately, very few visitors to the Pacific NW leave
without spotting at least one NW crow.
