I appreciate the postings on Northwestern Crow. When I was in Vancouver
in 1984 for the ABA convention, there was scuttlebutt, but everyone felt
reasonably sure that birds on Vancouver Island could be called
Northwestern Crows. Since I've been here, I've read what various
authorities have said, but it is good to know what people's opinions are
of the species' status (or lack thereof). Many times when on field
trips, newer birders will ask particualrly about this bird because they
think they should be able to find them due to field guides. In such
situations, one often feels one has to have some clout behind one's
answer when seemingly refuting noted authors (though most of these noted
authors have the fine print re. the species right there).
