I also remember my first RSTO (splashing about in a stream in
Connecticut). It was quite an event for a twelve year old. I think
that one and my first Rose-breasted Grosbeak were two of the most
memorable lifers for me. The Rose-breasted Grosbeak flew into an
overhead branch and gave me a real thrill. It wasn't until I
learned their call that I discovered the eastern deciduous forest to be
full of them.
