Not quite sure of the context of this message, but I can attest to
the fact that there are far more birders than I care to admit who
are not only politically apathetic, but are not conservationists
in any sense of the word that I would swear allegiance to.
That's a sad, but true fact.
They aren't a majority, of course, but remember that roughly 70%
of the populace proclaims itself in favor of the ESA when polled
(regardless of the pollster). And 48% of the populace recently
went on record when polled as opposing logging in National Forest
(given that something like 25% of the populace is unaware that
logging occurs in National Forests - or were, I should say, recent
events have probably wised folks up - this should come as no surprise).
Anyway, I suspect that greater than 70% of birders support the ESA,
but I know for a fact (want names?) that it ain't 100%. Certainly
when it comes to an ESA with teeth.
