For additional historical perspective you all might check "Birds of the
University of Washington Campus" published in the _Murrelet_, Vol. 21,
pp. 35-46 (1940) by Robert C. Miller and Elizabeth L. Curtis. They
reported that Ruffed Grouse became scarce after ca. 1911 and the the
Yellow-breasted Chat was "an uncommon migrant or summer resident in thick
growth near Lake [Washington]." Also rewarding is Higman & Larrison's
1951 _Union Bay: The Life of a City Marsh_.

As for birds, I am pleased to announce that the King County Breeding Bird
Atlas data collection phase is, for all intents and purposes, complete.
We have records for ALL 273 quarter townships in the county with a
minimum of 12 species and a maximum of 97 reported as "possible,"
"probable," or "confirmed" nesters. Now begins the write up. One county
down, 38 to go!
