Tweeters,

I'm late getting this on. On Friday 18 August, they let me go in the
field again. We boated from Shilshole to Tulalip, staying for the most part
1/2 to 1 mile off shore, and interviewed recreational salmon anglers for
various and sundry bits of information needed for fisheries sampling. I
had the time to take notes on birds during a few legs of the journey.

7:00 a.m. - Shilshole Marina to Edmonds.

2 Caspian Terns
6 "Comic" Terns - Sorry, at 20 knots my ID abilities on small terns is poor
8 Bonaparte's Gulls
15 Glaucous-winged & GW X West Gulls
2 Rhinoceros Auklets
2 Red-necked Phalaropes

7:30 a.m. - Edmonds to Mukilteo Flat water and very few birds

9 Double-crested Cormorants
2 Caspian Terns
1 Rhino Auklet

8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Off Tulalip Bay 1/4 - 1/2 mile

1 Marbled Murrelet in 'summer' plumage
6 Rhino Auklets
7 Double-crested Corms, all adults
2 Bonaparte's Gulls
1 Red-necked Grebe in fading summer plumage
2 Caspian Tern adults
6 Glaucous-wing/Intergrade Gulls
1 California Gull immature

9:30 a.m. - Possession Sound (Gedney Is. to the Shipwreck)

Very few gulls, a couple of Rhinos, and 3 D-C Corms (mostly fly-bys)

Not a great day for birds on the water. The concentrations of sport
fishing boats may well have contributed to the paucity of water birds, as
there were nearly 200 boats in "Humpy Hollow" (Possession Sound from the
Shipwreck to Mukilteo) alone.
