Solved the mystery of the crow vs jay squabbles. The woman who lives
kitty-corner behind me puts peanuts and left-over goodies out for the birds,
and that evening she put out a certain kind of pastry that the birds go nuts
for. She says there's a small roost up in the trees around Lake City Way and
95th, and that it's been there for about 5 years. She's lived in the
neighborhood for about 30 years (all my neighbors are like that) and says the
roost moves every 5 years or so. She suspects they have to move, as their
woods get turned into houses.

She calls every bird a "sparrow". :)
