It sounds as if it was a lot of fun, and we ought to do more mystery birds
on tweeters! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Dennis Paulson,

Our guru has spoken, so....

Last night on *Bird Talk* Kort Jungel, who accompanies the Evergreen Advanced
Ornithology students on the annual summer trek to the Hart Mt. Refuge in
South Central Oregon shared this interesting anecdote..

Kort, who is the gourmet cook--this is true, folks..these are lucky kids--
and another guy were driving down off the mountain into Plush, OR when
they were dumbfounded to see a flock of +/- 300 birds covering the road right
where the gravel road gives way to blacktop..they figure they were at the
4500' level..they stopped and observed this incredible scene for about 10
minutes or so noting no apparent feeding behavior, or picking
behavior..the birds would occasionally spread a wing, but generally acted
like they did not want to be disturbed. Kort said when they started up their
rig and proceeded forward slowly only the birds directly in the way moved
and the rest acted like they were in some sort of torpor and couldn't
care less.

The date was Aug. 8, altitude +/- 4550 feet and it was late in
the afternoon.. it had been hot during the day...
You now know as much as I do about the incident..

Care to venture a guess?

Jon Anderson, Scott Morrison, Scott Richardson and other *Bird Talk*
listeners are kindly asked not to give it away..
