Subject: Aggressive Swallow behavior?

I went down to the Fill this a.m. to see the progress of the Tweeters
Loosestrife Pulling Team (*Great work*, BTW - the piles also serve as
nice blinds) and observed an interesting behavior. On the *new* shoreline
were two juvenile Spotted Sandpipers. When one flushed and attempted to
fly over the main pond to the other side, several Barn Swallows stooped
at the Spotty, almost driving it into the water a couple of times. I've
never seen Barn Swallows be aggressive to a non-raptor. Any ideas?

Also observed:
1 Pacific-slope Flycatcher
2 Red-eyed Vireos
6-10 Yellow Warblers
6 Orange-crowned Warblers
1 MacGillivray's Warbler
4 Western Tanagers
1 Vaux's Swift (no Blacks)
12,345 Barn Swallows/9,456 Cliff Swallows
2 Green Herons (utilizing new habitat at main pond)
