No, this is not about all the drivel about Windows'94, oops it will be a year
late, OK we'd better call it Windows'95 !!!

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer came down to Montlake Fill last night to take
pics and make an in-depth study on the lives of the loosestrife pullers.
"Strife on the loose at Montlake, helpless Seattle inhabitants enslaved by
ruthless immigrant Scot and forced to work for no pay, continued on page 26c".
Thanks to Jane Hadley, "your roving, loosetrife reporter" for taking the
trouble to come down and talk to everybody on the project.

So if you don't want another chance of media stardom to slip by, better come
down to our next gathering, Sunday morning 8am (though you don't have to get
up that early) till noon or thereabouts.

Progress Report.

The area cleared on the NE corner is truly awesome. We all just stood and
gawped at the progress - looking forward to seeing a pacific golden plover
there next August !!! There is still a fair whack to go until the north end is
completely clear, however. Roughly about halfway. That only leaves the east
side which should take a week or so.

The end is nigh.

We expect to be finished in another 4-6 weeks - there will be a big
celebration organised to commemorate the removal of the last clump. Everybody
will be invited, but in order that you don't feel really guilty at the party
for sponging off all those hard working tweeters who have commited their
valuable time so you can come down and see cool birds, you'd better come down
and lend a hand so that you an sleep easy at night !!!!!!


The (almost) Unsolved Mystery.

When we got down to the Fill last night, there were big piles of pulled up
loosestrife everywhere. Coming from a Celtic culture I'm sure that the
"Noxious Weed" faerie (fairy in English/American) had paid a visit during the
night. Everybody else was kind of sceptical about this, however.


Birds - finally

Loads of Vaux's swifts last night appeared as the swallows were coming into
roost in the cattails. At least 15-20, probably more.
3 greater yellowlegs flew past calling.
1 spotted sandpiper


BTW, for all you nerds out there Apple had a really funny ad in the papers
yesterday. It was a double page spread with:
