In a biographical mode, I'd also reccommend *Born Naked* by Farley Mowat.
He's a Canadian who has written many books about nature and is also an
ardent environmentalist (rumor has it he wasn't allowed entry to the US
during the Reagan Administration because he was considered "dangerous").
His memoir is an amusing story of a boy obsessed by nature and birds.
