7xI ;In Yakima County, the high count for Common Nighthawks that I'm aware of is
500+ at Priest Rapids on the Columbia River on 14 August 1993 ((Mike and Karen
Mulcahy, pers. comm.). Bob Boekelheide noted 100+ moving WEST to EAST at dusk
over Harrah 27 August 1989 - this is about 10 km west of Wapato.

By the way, Bob AND FAMILY has just relocated to Sequim where he will be a
science teacher. Wapato loses its premier ornithologist and Sequim gains
another, leaving the Eastside once again with too few avid birdwatchers. 'Tis a
shame...theres soo much yet to figure out here in eastern Washington. Like at
Priest Rapids for example. The ornithological community desperetely needs a
resident twitcher there to get Yakima County's bird list past rival Walla
Walla'S. I'm convinced it can be done, just need someone there to note the Red
Knot zoom by, or Glaucous or Thayer's Gull etc etc etc. Oh well!
