Subject: Rare Bird Alert - Common Moorhen

Word came from the Portland Phone Network of two Common Moorhens seen east
of the Sandy River in a pond north of the westbound lanes of Interstate
84. This area is a couple miles east of Troutdale and several miles east
of Portland. Specific directions are lacking (milepost, etc.), but I
believe the spot is just about one or two miles east of the Sandy River.
There are few (or just one?) ponds visible from the Interstate. If you
are traveling east from Portland, you have to take the Corbett exit and
get back on the westbound lanes, unless you want to 'run the gauntlet' as
you dash across the highway. Perhaps Harry can add a few details in a post.

There are other ponds and sloughs nearby in the Sandy River delta,
accessible from the east side of the Sandy River, on the north side of
the Interstate. Take the Lewis and Clark State Park exit from either
direction to get here.

If you are a member of a local phone network or of the Oregon phone
network, pass the word.
