Here's a bit more information. The birds were found by a birder by
the name of Giff Benton, who is visiting the state from Georgia
where he is a local field notes editor. In describing the birds, he
mentioned that they had red bills and horizontal white stripes down
the side; and was apparently quite familiar with the species. In
short, the story sounds plausible.
