A adult male, winter plumaged, CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was seen at the
University of Washington's Montlake Fill yesterday December 3 as well as
today. The bird is an. The bird has been seen at the in the feeding in
the grass at the north end of the main pond. This is Washington's fourth
record of this species.

The BOREAL OWL reported on the last update, from Reifel Refuge, in
British Columbia, has not been reported since. The WHOOPER SWAN reported
from Oregon continues at Summer Lake, call the Portland, Oregon Hotline
at (503) 292-0661 for the latest details.

NORTHERN FULMARS were seen flying from the Strait of Juan de Fuca into
the Puget Sound on November 29th and 30th. Many observers looked for
these birds at points south, however none were spotted.

A crossing of the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the Washington State Ferry
"Coho" on November 26, 15 NORTHERN FULMARS, 6 FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS,
6 RED PHALAROPES, 3 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 1 BROWN PELICAN, and many ANCIENT
MURRELETS.

A PRAIRIE FALCON is still being seen on the Samish Flats at the "West
90". The Pacific Golden Plover first reported weeks ago, is also still
being reported. No GYRFALCONS or SNOWY OWLS have been reported as of yet.

It is looking like it is going to be a banner season for SWAMP SPARROWS.
2 are being seen regularly at Spencer Island in Everett. One at the
University of Washington's Montlake Fill near interpretive trail post
number "4" on November 20th and another near the foot bridge on November
23rd. 1 was seen again at the Kent STP on November 18th. 2 at Flett
Dairy, in south Tacoma on November 11th.

At Point No Point, in northern Kitsap County, the adult LITTLE GULL,
FRANKLIN'S GULL, BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE, and CLARK'S GREBE are still
being seen.

A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen off of Jetty Island, in Everett, on December 2.

Sightings around Seattle - At Kent Ponds the morning of November 24 there
was a male EURASIAN WIDGEON, a male EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and a
late OSPREY. At Alki Point, SURFBIRDS, BRANT, and all three SCOTERS, as
well as other waterbirds, were seen on November 27th. In West Seattle, a
SCRUB JAY has been seen in yards in the neighborhood just northeast of
Schmitz Park, around 50th and Stevens. At the Montlake Fill, a NASHVILLE
WARBLER was seen on December 2. To the west of Seattle, at North Bend a
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen at Rattlesnake Lake, North Bend, on
December 3rd.

An immature male NORTHERN ORIOLE has been visiting a feeder at Ocean
Shores, last seen on December 3rd. If you are interested in seeing this

A SAW-WHET OWL is resident in a yard in Wapato, Washington, just south of
Yakima. If you are interested in seeing this bird, call Andy Stepniewski,

member of the Rare Bird Alert family in Washington. Long time TriCities
