we currently have several Chickadees who think that the suet feeder is
exclusively theirs. They hang out in the bushes nearby and often drive
off the bushtits when the flock moves in to feed. (It's a sight to see one
chickadee take on more than a dozen bushtits...and succeed.) This year we
also have at least 2 Bewick's wrens and 1 nuthatch coming to the suet.
The song sparrows and juncos forage heavily directly below the suet
feeder, but don't come to the feeder itself. I use fairly small mesh to
encase the suet which makes it difficult for the larger birds - the
flickers get frustrated - but also keeps the squirrels out.
