Uncommon sightings this week on our tree farm:

HERMIT THRUSH
TOWNSEND WARBLER
HUTTON'S VIREO

The female hermit thrush was rushing along the gravel driveway, reddish
tail cocked high, wing in the fluttering position, with field marks of
spotted breast and white eye ring clearly evident. This was our first
winter sighting (in 42 years) of a hermit thrush on our tree farm.

The Townsend warbler accompanied a small flock of black-capped and
chestnut-backed chicadees as they investigated a pile of branches from a
cut-up western redcedar windfall.

The Hutton's vireo appeared for three seconds on a twig at eye level,
just 6 feet away as the wheelbarrow-load of cut-up cedar cordwood came
down the path toward the woodshed.

Love the interesting sightings we have during the late fall and winter
months!
