Hi,

I found a log feeder discouraged starlings & English sparrows (not 100%),
but worked ok for a downy woodpacker. So, it might work for flickers. I
used a log about 10 cm in diameter & about 45 cm tall. Stripped all limbs
off. Drilled perhaps 20 holes about 1.5 cm in diameter in the log and
hung it vertically like a small tree trunk. Must be out of reach of
squirrels. Stuffed holes with suet or sunflower butter. Woks ok for
chickadees & nuthatches too.

If you're in starling-free woods & have stellar's jays, leave the limbs
on & stuff the holes with peanuts in the shell. The jays treat it like
an acorn woodpecker cache.
