Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday December 7. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

During the afternoon of December 4 a MOUNTAIN PLOVER was observed in a farm
field along Wintel Road on the southern edge of Ankeny NWR. It could not be
relocated. The BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE continues to be seen at the John Day
Dam on the Columbia River. The WHOOPER SWAN continues to be seen at Summer
Lake.

There is a male BRAMBLING coming to a feeder in Naselle, Washington, east
of Willapa Bay. If interested in seeing the bird call Rex Ziak at
360-484-3491.

The biggest news of the week continues to be the major die-off of NORTHERN
FULMARS along the coast. So far two LAYSAN ALBATROSS, a MOTTLED PETREL, an
unidentified PTERODROMA PETREL, AND A SABINE'S GULL have been found dead
with the FULMARS.

Many live RED PHALAROPES are still being seen along the coast as well as
live FULMARS and shearwaters offshore. The LAPLAND LONGSPUR continues to be
seen at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay and the two PALM WARBLERS are still
at the Marine Science Center. Two EARED GREBES are being seen on the ocean
at Boiler Bay.

SHORT-EARED OWLS are now showing up on Sauvie Island but so far they are
being elusive. At least none BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS are now at the
North Portland winter roost. A RED-THROATED LOON and four BALD EAGLES were
at Roslyn Lake near Sandy December 3.

A female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was found among a swarm of blackbirds
along Livermore Road north of Baskett Slough NWR December 1. A PRAIRIE
FALCON was at Ankeny NWR December 4.

A LONG-EARED OWL was at Adair County Park north of Corvallis November 30. A
dead LONG-EARED was found along I5 near the Tangent overpass December 5.
Two SURF SCOTERs were on the Tangent Sewage Ponds November 30. Two CHIPPING
SPARROWS were in the hedges along Bellfountain Road north of Finley NWR
December 2.

The seasons first BOHEMIAN WAXWING at Hermiston was seen December 4. Five
COMMON REDPOLLS came to a Joseph feeder December 3. There are now a large
number of REDPOLLS in eastern Washington. It looks as if northeastern
Oregon is coming alive.
