I went to look for the CC longspur yesterday. It was very
easy to find. You look for the cluster of birders. It
is, as many people pointed out, the tamest wild bird
I've ever seen. I saw a black belly (possibly wet),
a faint light colored ring on the neck, and no hint
of a buffy wash. Not a one of the field guides came
even close to what this bird looked like. Without
knowing in advance what it was, I doubt that I ever
could have came up with the correct species!

(and I was kidding about the collecting gun, but this
bird is so tame that a butterfly net, a bird bander, and a bird sexer
is not a bad idea!)
