Brenda Senturia asks
I would like to take them owling some night, but am not sure
what the best time of year would be for the highest possibility of
getting some response(s). My guess is February, but would like some
opinions. Thanks.
All of my owling experience is from California but February was the best time
to go owling. Our Great Horned Owls nested quite often in March so February
was set as the time to take care of logistics, so to speak. Sometimes in Alum
Rock Park in San Jose you could hear 8 Gt. Horned Owls setting up territory.
For a while we had 4 species of owls calling in Alum Rock Park, Screech Owls,
Pygmy Owls, Barn Owls and Gt. Horned.
I once had 60 people show up for an owl walk. Talk about being too
successful.
