Hello tweeters group:

I hope to contact your system and people to assist with a project we have in
B.C. on burrowing owls (BUOW). This year the BUOW was raised to the
endangered category in Canada.

I'm looking for information on wintering burrowing owls associated with the
Pacific Flyway Region, particularly in the interior portion of Washington
and Oregon. AND, is anyone studying burrowing owls in this area?

We have sent 20 to 40 banded (USFW bands - left leg) BUOW south from British
Columbia each of the past 4 years. The spring released, pen reared,
yearling birds have an additional color band above the aluminum band; 1991 -
blue, 1992 - green, 1993 - pink, 1994 - yellow. The origin of these BUOW's
is the Kamloops and Merritt grassland areas in the south central region of
B.C.

Of interest to some of you is that between 2 and 4 BUOW have wintered here
the last 3 years. This past spring we had 7 returning birds of which four
were banded; one carrying its green band and the other three pink bands.

Is there anyone in the tweeters group interested in keeping in touch with us
on this program?
