Well catching it would be infinitely preferrable to shooting it !!!!!

In this case since the ID is clear cut then there is no need to
bother catching it, particularly since there is always a risk in
catching any wild animal, even if that risk is vanishingly small.

Catching it to determine the sex would not be worth the effort.
Much better to conduct a thorough study in the birds normal
wintering area to determine the plumage characterisitics.

A sample size of 1 is a LOT worse than a sample size of 0 !!!!!!!!
