This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

A male RUSTY BLACKBIRD was spotted by Mike Denny last weekend
north of Walla Walla. The bird is with Red-winged Blackbirds near the
Tomco Seed Company, at mile post 13.75 along Washington 125, about
6 miles north of Walla Walla. The bird was seen again on December 5 by
Michael Willison. It isn't being seen every time out.

On December 2, the YELLOW-BILLED LOON on Blue Lake in northwestern
Grant County, Washington, first seen on November 4 by Warren Hall, was
still being seen. Look for it below Dry Falls and along the eastern side of
the lake. Also there that day was a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER. Blue Lake
is between Coulee City and Soap Lake along Washington 17. See

A WESTERN GULL is in the Tri-Cities area of central Washington. Bob
Woodley observed one December 6 at Groves Park on December 6, on
the small beach at the Park Street entrance between Newcomer and
Saint. Today, December 8, Mike Denny saw it again in Kennewick, at
Clover Island Park, just off the Cable Bridge, along the Columbia River.
Take Kennewick Avenue and turn east on Clover Island Road. Clover
Island is on Washington DeLorme p.39, c-8.

Jeff Wisman is still chasing the adult MEW GULL in Spokane. On
December 5, both Jeff and the bird were at Charlie's Tavern, about 2
blocks south of Spraque Avenue along Bowdish (sp?) Road in the
Spokane Valley. This is about 8 miles east of downtown. Jeff is hoping
it'll fly over his house for his yard list. Perhaps a little chumming in the
front yard will help.

Nancy and Bill LaFramboise had a HARRIS' SPARROW and a
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at their feeder in Richland, Washington.

On December 7, Dan Svingen reports 5 DUNLIN are now at Mann Lake,
just east of Lewiston, Idaho. It'll be interesting to see how long these

Scott Ray reports 2 large flocks of COMMON REDPOLLS in northern
Okanogan County, Washington on December 6. Scott saw them, feeding
on birch catkins, between Oroville, the Sitzmark Ski Area and Tonasket.
One flock was along the road to Chesaw in the canyon several miles east
of Oroville -- look for the section of road that climbs steeply up through
conifers. The other flock was at the north end of the Highland Snowpark
area, south of Havillah. See Washington DeLorme p.115, the top

Dick Johnson saw an immature BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE below John
Day Dam on the Columbia River, which is about 8 miles southeast of
Goldendale, Washington. The bird was best seen from the Oregon side.
See Washington DeLorme p.26, c-3. Dick also reports a male ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD in Lyle, Washington, which is about half way between
The Dalles and Hood River, Oregon. He saw the bird on December 3, in a
yard one block north of Washington 14 and one block east of Washington
142. See Washington DeLorme p.25, c-3.
