Yesterday someone mentioned seeing a Great Horned Owl at the
Montlake Fill while looking for the Longspur; they mentioned that
it flushed from the grass and I'm wondering if they might have
seen a Short-eared Owl instead. One (or more?) has been seen there
off and on for at least the last year or two although I don't
remember hearing reports during the summer so it may be a winter
resident only. A Great Horned Owl out by day and roosting in the
grass would be pretty unusual.
