A few things of interest out toward Vancouver Lake this morning. Some of
the aforementioned circling Shovelers were observed to be circling. Lots
of geese on the lake proper, and it appeared that there were some Grebes
there as well (I didn't have binoculars so I couldn't positively id).
Red-tailed hawks were quite abundant--from the Lake Park back into town
there were at least 10 aling with some 6 kestrels. I did also see what
looks to be a heron rookery just outside of town: eight to ten largish
nests at and near the tops of a single group of cottonwood trees. Lots
moving--for those in the area here, well worth a visit.
