Re: Free Guide to Malheur NWR

The January/February 1996 issue of The Bird Guide features a travel
guide to Malheur NWR, Oregon. If you are not a subscriber and would
like a free copy, please get back to me.

There have been several recent changes to The Bird Guide. After a
year and a half of hectic monthly publishing, I have gone to a
bi-monthly publication schedule. In addition, with the Jan/Feb issue
the new size changes from tabloid (10 x 14) to a more standard book
(8-1/2 x 11) size. The number of pages increases to 24.

For those who aren't familiar with it, The Bird Guide is a newsletter
I produce. The intended audience is all birders - from backyard
birders through advanced - in the Pacific Northwest. The purpose is
to help all levels of birders to improve their knowledge of our NW
birds and improve identification skills.

Each issue features several articles including:
1) travel guide to a birding location in Oregon, Washington, northern
California, or Idaho. Not only are the birds covered, but also local
history, places to visit, things to do for the whole family.
2) an identification article on a difficult to ID species or family
in the NW.
3) a column for newer birders explaining birding terms and techniques,
or explaining the birds found in the various habitats in our region.
4) recent rare birds found in the Pacific Northwest.
5) birds to watch for in the coming season.
6) How and where to find a rare or local species in our area.

That's the backbone of each issue, but there are other articles as
well. Included are a few black-and-white photos and line drawings to
complement the text.

The Jan/Feb issue features (in addition to the Malheur travel guide)
an identification article on Tennessee Warbler; habitat coverage of
the birds of the open ocean off the NW; and tells how to find
Flammulated Owls.

Again, just reply to this message with your name and mailing address
and I'll get a sample in the mail to you. We will go to print next
week, so you should receive your copy of The Bird Guide pretty close
to the New Year.
