The adult male, winter plumaged, CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was last
reported at the University of Washington's Montlake Fill December 12th.
The bird has been seen on the ground feeding in the grass at the north
end of the main pond. This is only the fourth record of this species in
the state of Washington.

A male BRAMBLING has been visiting a feeder near Neselle, in Pacific
County since the first of the month. If you're interested in trying to

On December 3th an observer on the NOAA research vessel, McArthur,
reported up to 30 LAYSAN ALBATROSS and 3 MOTTLED PETRELS off of
Washington's southern coast. The next day, passing through the Strait of
Juan de Fuca to Seattle, 60 NORTHERN FULMARS, many ANCIENT MURRELETS,
and a few SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS, BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, and RED
PHALAROPES were seen between Dungeness Spit and Point Wilson. Further on,
2 FORK-TAILED STORM PETRELS and a single RED PHALAROPE about one mile off
Point No Point. And finally, heading into Seattle, 4 RED PHALAROPES were
about one and one-half miles off Shilshoe and Golden Gardens and 3
CLARK'S GREBES among some 600 WESTERN GREBES just off Shilshoe.

The recent foul weather drove in numbers of RED PHALAROPES at inland
locations all across Western Washington this past week. On December 14th
a LEACH'S STORM PETREL was seen from the Fauntleroy-Vashon ferry very
close to the Fauntleroy terminal.

On December 5th the first GYRFALCON of the year was reported from the
Samish Flats. The bird was located on the Farm to Market Road just north
of the intersection of the T Loop Road. The T Loop Road is just south of
Field Road. The PRAIRIE FALCON reported on the last several updates is
still being seen on the Samish Flats at the "West 90".

An immature male NORTHERN ORIOLE has been visiting a feeder at Ocean
Shores, last seen on December 12th. If you are interested in seeing this

The Seattle Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be conducted on Decmeber
30th. If you are interested in participating please contact the office
