Yesterday I saw two Peregrine Falcons on Samish flats. The first was sittin
g near the top of a large deciduous tree by the road. I would have missed i
t if my niece hadn't been with me, she noticed it just before we passed the
tree.
t sat for at least five minutes while we watched.

Shortly after that, a couple of miles away, a second Peregrine flew low ove
r the car clutching a sparrow sized bird. It perched on a nearby utility po
le for less than a minute when it started screaming, then flew off pursued
by a Bald Eagle.
It apparently dropped its prey because the eagle landed in the field and wa
s soon joined by a juvenile. Neither stayed long and disappeared as we sear
ched for the falcon. It soon returned, found its lunch at least ten yards f
rom where the eagles landed, ret
urned to a utility pole, and made short work of a bird which hardly seemed worth the effort for an eagle!
The day before, I had seen a Peregrine in the same area. I also spotted another falcon which may have been the Prairie Falcon Jerry saw. Unfortunately it was seen in the glare of the brilliant setting sun.
Yesterday, I also saw a Rough-legged Hawk, not to mention many Red-tailed
Hawks.
