If you can take the time to stop off north of San Francisco do Bodega
Bay for white and brown pelicans and Point Reyes Nat'l Seashore (If our
lovely idiot congress has allowed it to open) for hawks, turkey
vultures (soaring in place along the cliff updrafts) and as an added
bonus, elephant seals. South of Santa Cruz the drive along 17 mile
Drive between Pacific Grove and Carmel has lots of shorebirds and
otters. Stop at a good bookstore and get a copy of the "California
Wildlife viewing Guide" (about $6) put together by Joe La Tourette.
There is also a Washington state version of this interesting and
valuble book. We were down there (Santa Rosa area) last Feb. if you
want more about just north of the SF area let me know. John
