Hi Tweets: Two unrelated items

CRANBERRIES:

I have had disappointment with cranberry strings for backyard birds.
We hung strings of cranberries all over several shrubs in our
yard, both evergreen and bare branched, in hopes of a feeding frenzy like
the one described here by another Tweet. No response! It's been a week
and all the birds are ignoring the berries. Even the crows and starlings.

They are around, flying back and forth over the berries, but nary a
curious glance, as far as I can tell. Has anyone else tried this? How
long did it take for your birds to notice the berries? We regularly have
house finches, house sparrows, crows, starlings, chickadees, bushtits,
pine siskins, flickers, juncos and song sparrows. Would any of these
species be interested in the first place? Not even the squirrels have
shown interest. All that work for nothing.

SQUAMISH:

We plan to go to Whistler in two weeks, with a spare day on the way up in
which to bird. We'd like to know more about the Eagle Festival mentioned
earlier here, held in Squamish. Also, can anyone recommend a good
(inexpensive and scenic) place to stay, north of the border, on the way to
Whistler? Preferably one with nearby bird interest. Any ideas? Answer
me directly if you like.

Thanks and Happy New Year to you all - you make my days *much* more
interesting.
