In compiling Washington Field Notes for WOSNews, the guide line that I
keep in mind for Great Egret in Western Washington is that they are to be
expected along the lower Columbia River an north to the Grays Harbor
area. Reports outside of that area are the ones that I would be more
likey to include in my report. The numbers of Great Egrets tends to
increase in the fall and winter in the lower Columbia and southern outer
coast, with high counts up to 50 birds at Ridgefield NWR on 9/2/94, and
42 at Toke Point, Pacific County, on 7/26/94.
