Dear Tweeters,
I am a sophomore biology student at Walla Walla college and am new
to the northwest from Maryland just last month. A few birders here
alerted me to tweeters upon my arrival and got me all hooked up. I read
feverously all the professional tips and not so professional tips that
are swapped everday across the net. It's great.
I am embarking this week on a project to design a recovery program
for the burrowing owl in Walla Walla county. I understand that there was
some research done on a burrowing owl population on Dodds Rd. south of
Moses Lake. Any information or data from that or any other study would be
greatly appreciated. Actually, though that information would be most
helpful, I am eager to receive any information on burrowing owls in the
state.
My needs are not restricted to borrowing owls, however, but could
also include recovery plans for other owl species. Any information
about recovery strategies, even if unpublished would be greatly
appreciated as well. Also, I am particularly interested in any
information regarding the specific roles that owls play in various
ecosystems. Finally, I am interested in finding where the nearest
breeding population of burrowing owls is here in Walla Walla or
neighboring counties.
Thanks in advance for your responses. Feel free to contact me
directly. I'm off to find me a falcated teal. We don't have those in
Maryland!

Sincerely,

Jon Flowers
